Picture Perfect Postcard Campaign

What to do next

We're already had some great media coverage (thanks to Amanda Brown) across North Yorkshire, preparing local businesses for the campaign. Once everything is in place, Amanda will reach out to other journalists and travel media to talk about what we're doing.

Please remember that Amanda and I are doing all this on a voluntary basis and it's a collaborative campaign, so it's important you play your part too. The more noise we all make, the more your business will benefit.

See below for the 3 sets of marketing materials:

  1. Ready-written sample social media posts for you to adapt and use

  2. Some images for social media, on your website, in a blog or as part of a mailing

  3. A poster for you to print off and display - or you could create a different one yourself.

You are welcome to adapt everything to make it relevant to your area and business.

You don't need to refer to this as Picture Perfect (that's just our internal name for this activity) but we would love you to talk about bringing back postcards and giving visitors something to write home about

It would be great if you could tag @YorkshireTreasures in any facebook posts.

Please download and use the poster, images and suggested social media posts

I'm now working on a special Picture Perfect map - more on this soon!

Sample social media posts for you to adapt & use - or create your own

I suggest you use these ideas at intervals over the next few weeks, in any order you choose. You could use these suggestions on social media, on your website or as part of a mailing too.

Make sure you personalise each message so it’s relevant to your business, your area and your visitors. Remember to either mention that you offer postcards or suggest where to get them. Please do tag me in on facebook @YorkshireTreasures

Suggestion 1

Remember choosing postcards on holiday? It used to be part of every trip.

Finding just the right picture.

Sitting with a coffee or beer to write a few lines before popping it into a postbox.

Happy faces of friends & family when they thanked you for the card and asked about your trip.

We’d love to help you find the pleasure of that tradition again.

Next time you visit us, why not take a few minutes to send a postcard? It might just make someone's day. Do encourage them to visit us too!

Suggestion 2

What do you love most about visiting xxx? An amazing view, lovely cake and coffee, favourite walk, sheep that caused a traffic jam, great people?

Why not find the perfect postcard to send to someone special?

When you visit us, we have postcards ready for you/suggest buying postcards from xxxx.

Xxx (somewhere within your business, or a local café or pub) is a lovely place to sit and write a postcard and watch the world go by too.

Suggestion 3

Remember before facebook, Instagram, phones… we went on a trip and sent postcards home. It was lovely to spend time choosing them, to sit and write them, to imagine happy faces when friends and family receive them.

There’s something so lovely about receiving a handwritten postcard.

Pick up a postcard from….

Where will you sit and write it?

Who will you make happy when they receive it?

Suggestion 4

When did you last send a postcard? 5, 20, 30 years ago? We'd love to bring back this lovely tradition.

When you visit/stay with us, why not pick up a postcard from xxx, sit in/at xxx and write home about the lovely things you’ve seen and done?

Imagine the surprised smiles on the faces of your friends & family. Maybe you’ll start a new/old tradition!

Suggestion 5

Happy days, simple pleasures. We’re trying to bring back the nostalgic delight of sending postcards. Do you remember?

You'd enjoy choosing the perfect postcards (& buying a couple to keep). Find a café or pub, order your favourite drink

Then you'd sit quietly for a moment to write them by hand, remembering your favourite holiday moments, watching the world go by, knowing you’ll make someone happy when they receive your postcards

Suggestion 6

Something to write home about? Which postcard would you choose?

(Post 4 pictures, each labelled, to encourage voting and comments)

Remember to mention either that you offer postcards or suggest where to get them from

We'll be building on the power of word-of-mouth recommendations, harnessing the good memories of many previous visitors and the passion people have for all parts of North Yorkshire.

You'll discover some effective techniques to avoid knee-jerk discounting, build loyalty and extend stays.
