'I tried it but it didn't work'

Ever felt like your marketing just isn't working the way you'd like?

It's usually for one of these reasons:

  • You're doing the wrong thing (e.g. spending too much time on social media when a mailing list would be more effective) at the wrong time (promoting something too early or late).
  • Your marketing messages - what you say on your website, in mailings and social media - aren't quite right. Usually they're not targeted enough or don't stand out enough.
  • You've not done something often enough.

I'll explain this in a moment. If you think the problem is one of the first two above, a Power Hour might help you.

There was a time when people needed to see a mention of something three times before they made a decision to buy, book, visit. This might have been a word-of-mouth mention, an article, and perhaps a second word-of-mouth mention.

A few years ago, this went up to about seven times. Now I'd suggest it's nearer 15.

It's very frustrating when you do something and it doesn't get the response you need.

It's often because we now need so many more prompts, inspiration and information to make decisions to do something: articles, mailings, multiple social media mentions...

You might feel like you're repeating yourself too many times, but not everyone sees everything you do.

Or they see it and forget.

Or see it and don't get round to doing anything about it immediately.

A lot of marketing feels like nagging. But it's really just about making it easier for people to understand what you do, see why it could be good for them, and then reminding them to book, buy, visit.

The future is analogue
