Dales Discovery Day - 26 April

Show your love of the Yorkshire Dales: share your favourite places & insider tips

Dales Discovery Day? What is it?

Dales Discovery Day is on 26th April. It's a chance to share everything you love about the Yorkshire Dales, to highlight all your favourite places and to encourage visitors, new and old to take a closer look. By planning to flood the internet and social media with positive messages, all on the same day, we hope to grab attention, with lasting impact.

Why?

I've come up with this idea to help kick-start the season and raise the profile of the Yorkshire Dales, so we can attract more visitors and generate revenue for our residents and communities.

Many people already love the Yorkshire Dales. But we still need more year-round visitors, who want to see and understand different aspects of the Dales and to discover new places and activities. We need to remind our previous visitors to return and recommend the area to others.

Dales Discovery Day is about encouraging people to spend more time here, to look beyond the obvious, to explore more, and to hopefully spend more in local businesses. It's just one day, but can have a lasting impact and is a chance for Dales' businesses to collaborate and support each other.

Who can take part?

Anyone! It's for Dales tourism businesses, proud residents and communities, and loyal visitors. We hope you'll help to spread the word and encourage everyone you know to join in.

What does it cost?

Nothing! I'm giving my time to develop this on a voluntary basis and there's no charge to participate.

What will happen?

We'll talk about Dales Discovery Day in the run-up to the 26th April, and explain what it's about.

On the 26th April we'll all share our favourite places on social media and with our visitors, write about different ways to enjoy the Dales, and offer some insider tips.

You can just post one idea, or one hundred - it's up to you.

You might like to post photos, videos or articles - your choice.

You can focus just on your area or another part of the Dales.

We hope you'll also share other people's posts to support each other and increase the impact.

On the 26th April I'll also be launching a special list of 100 Ways to Discover the Dales. (Let me know if you're interested in sponsoring a section), which will then be available for the rest of the year.

What do you need to do?

For now all you need to do is put the date in your diary and think about the kinds of places and activities you might like to tell visitors about.

Next week I'll send some more details and ideas and a 'save the date' Dales Discovery Day image for you to start to use.

I'd love to hear from you if you're interested in taking part and want to tell me about your favourite places - susan@tourismnetwork.co.uk
